Few photographs and film reels have remained from the DP camps. Films have been presumably stored in private collections or archives; there are no film reels at the Estonian memory institutions about the German DP camps. There are few photographic records at Estonian memory institutions, those which there are, have primarily come from personal archives among other documents. Karl Hintzer’s photographs of the German DP camps have been preserved at the Herder Institute in Marburg. Part of Karl Hintzer’s diapositives has also made it to the Estonian National Archives, though they have not yet been made available to the public. About one hundred photos of German camp life can be found at the Museum of Estonians Abroad (VEMU) in Toronto, most of the photos in this exhibition have been borrowed from that collection.
